How do I add the Family Tax Cut to my return?

The Family Tax Cut is only applicable for 2014 and 2015.

We’ll automatically add the Family Tax Cut section to your return when you indicate that you are married or living common-law and report at least one child under 18. The credit will appear below the Your Children section in the sidebar.

Because of a CRA rule, you must answer “I was not” to the question about whether you were in prison; if you miss this question, we’ll prompt you to answer it when you Check & Optimize your return.

If you and your partner use linked returns we’ll apply this credit to the higher income person until you Check & Optimize your returns. The optimizer will add it to the person whose return benefits the most. You can change who claims this credit in the Optimization Results section.

If you and your partner are not using linked returns, you can either enter all the required information in the Family Tax Cut section or you can check the box to indicate you are not claiming the credit.

If you and your partner are not using linked returns, to claim the Family Tax Cut, navigate to the Your Children section, answer “Yes” to the question “Do you want to claim the Family Tax Cut?”, and enter all required information.

The Family Tax Cut has been eliminated. It remains effective for 2014 and 2015 tax returns.
