I don’t want to claim the caregiver amount (or amount for infirm dependant). What do I do?

This question is only applicable to 2015 and later tax years.

We use the questions in the Other Dependants Aged 18 and Over section to determine if you are eligible to claim the caregiver amount (line 315) or the amount for infirm dependant (line 306).

If we’ve added one of these credits to your return but you aren’t eligible to claim it (e.g., because someone else is claiming this credit for this dependant), use the override fields that appear in the right hand column of the table to indicate that you will claim $0 federally and $0 provincially. You can also use this column if you want to split the claim with someone other than your linked partner.
